The Japanese Grand Prix and the Iconic Suzuka Circuit
The Japanese Grand Prix has long been a staple of the Formula 1 calendar and off the back of the Singapore Grand Prix, one of the most exciting races of the year, it promises to be more captivating than ever! Can Red Bull bounce back and take the constructors Championship this weekend, will Ferrari continue a bit of form or will we see another team competing at the top. One thing we do know, The Suzuka Circuit will offer high speed, technical and exciting racing.
The Suzuka Circuit, designed by renowned Dutch architect John Hugenholtz, is a masterpiece of engineering. Its figure-eight layout stretches over 5.8 kilometres and 18 corners, featuring a unique combination of high-speed straights, sweeping corners, and challenging technical sections. The track’s most famous corners include the iconic Esses, the demanding Degner Curve, the exhilarating Spoon Curve, and the legendary 130R.
As well as being a drivers favourite to drive, it is also one of the most physical challenging. Lateral G-Force can reach up to 5G but what is most interesting is the sustained G-force. Drivers have to sustain a G-force of around 3G for 40% of the lap, and when we consider that in terms of the race that is approximately 32 minutes. And they also have to do three practice sessions and qualifying. It helps that the corners are pretty evenly split, given the figure of 8 nature of the circuit, with 10 to the right and 8 to the left but they will still need to be well prepared.
What we also need to be well prepared for is rain! One of the defining aspects of the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka is often the unpredictable weather conditions, typhoon season! We are supposedly due a dry weekend….but let’s see!
Last year was a great time for us, picking up our second World Drivers Championship, and this track as been synonymous with great racing moments in the past, the Senna and Prost rivalry, Schumacher winning six titles here, and we look forward to what this weekend might bring!
